RUNDU – The Sanlam Kavango East Teachers’ Tournament concluded at the Rundu Sports Stadium this past weekend, with the Rundu circuit of the Kavango East region winning the football category.
Ncamagoro circuit of the Kavango East region defended their title in netball, while Rundu circuit won the volleyball category now for the third consecutive year.
The tournament, which kicked off on 18 September, brought together teachers from seven regions, namely Kavango East and West, Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Zambezi and Omusati to compete for top honours in football, netball and volleyball.
Rundu circuit walked away with N$ 8 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals in the football category, while Ncamagoro circuit received N$ 4 000, a trophy, and gold medals for winning the netball category.
The Rundu education circuit, which won the volleyball category, walked away with N$ 4 000, a trophy and gold medals.
Sanlam sponsored the tournament to the tune of N$ 100000 this year, as it did last year.
Last year, Ompundja Circuit in the Oshana region won the football category, while Outapi circuit in the Omusati region won the netball category.
Chairperson of the organising committee, Chester Mutangara said he was satisfied, the tournament was a success, and they achieved what they hoped for – bringing seven regions in the country together.
“The main purpose of the tournament is to bring teachers together in order to know each other and share their common goals,” he said.
Sanlam representative Hilma Petrus said the tournament is an opportunity to recognise the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the future.
“At Sanlam, we believe that promoting health and wellness go hand in hand with supporting the communities we serve. It is not solely the responsibility of government alone to drive development,” she said. -Nampa
