RUNDU – Rundu residents – mainly women – held a march on Monday to express their shock and anger at the recent killing of a 29-year-old woman at the town.

Maria Mbunze Nseu was killed at Ndama location near the Engen service station last week. It is suspected that she was also raped.

Her dead body was found naked and it is suspected that she was stabbed with a sharp object.

Chief Inspector Sam !Nawaseb told New Era that Nseu had stab wounds all over her body.

Elina Diparo, founder and chairperson of the Namibia Rural Women and Youth Association (NARWAYA) expressed her anger at the continuous killing of women.

She is particularly concerned with the fact demonstrations, meetings and workshops aimed at ending such killings have come to naught.

“The aim of this gathering is to pray together unto God. I believe that God will answer,” Diparo said.

According to the march and prayer organisers, they decided to bring people together as they believe that the message will be spread further to reach men especially.

“We want Namibian men to repent and stop this evil. We believe that those who were thinking of abusing women might repent and see the abuse and killing as a bad thing,” said Diparo.

No suspect was arrested yet but police investigations are ongoing.

Last month a 35-year-old mother and her 6-year-old son were brutally killed at Masivi village, an incident that sent shockwaves across the two neighbouring Kavango regions.

Two Grade 7 learners were arrested in connection with the double murder.

Monday’s event was organised by NARWAYA together with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare’s Rundu office.
