A new Internet website to link up rural organisations, schools and small businesses, Iyaloo Shili Internet Project, was recently launched.
According to the project founder, Kashindi Ausiku, her organization has already created fourteen websites, some for free for rural schools and others at reasonable fees.
“We were doing a pilot project to find ways of linking organisations/schools/small businesses to the Internet by creating websites for those in rural areas as well as a website for remote villages. The project which ended in July 2007 started in March 2007,” Ausiku said in a press release.
The sites that have been created are currently running on the Internet and can be accessed at: www.namtranslations.iway.na/iyaloo.htm
“If one looks at these sites it gives a practical idea of how the whole of Namibia can be linked to the world via Internet.
“There are great possibilities to be able to see all the rural villages and remote towns on the Internet. We just need to market the concept. And most importantly to transfer website development skills to the regions,” she concluded.
