Russian string ensemble at the Warehouse Theatre

Home Art Life Russian string ensemble at the Warehouse Theatre

WINDHOEK– The Russian string ensemble Vertograd will be performing at the Warehouse Theatre on Tuesday at 20h00.

The Old Russian word “Vertograd” means a “garden abundant with fruits”. This name reflects the music style of the Ensemble, as in the Russian culture “Vertograd” has another, figurative meaning of the heaven paradise orchard, a symbol of human spiritual aspirations towards the absolute beauty. A deep interest in traditions of the Russian olden days has encouraged musicians to choose this name. It has also influenced their style of performance and repertoire.

The artists perform music of different countries, peoples and epochs. They play not only widely known, but also seldom played Russian folk songs and romances, famed classics and romances, folklore of various countries and original compositions, music jokes and popular melodies. Their style has been also influenced by swing, funk, blues, Latino, bossa-nova, bebop etc. The mixture of balalaika and guitar has been generally recognised as an optimal choice for creating a very exquisite sound. The usage of two guitar tunes – classic 6 string and Russian 7 string, adds a special color to the music palette of the Ensemble.

Warehouse Theatre doors open on Tuesday at 19h00 and the show starts at 20h00. Tickets are available at Computicket for N$50 and N$ 60 at the door.
