Fourteen youths from South Africa will join their Namibian counterparts to undergo training in various fields and carry out community work as part of the Youth Exchange Programme between the two countries.

Public relations officer at the National Youth Service (NYS) Johnathan Swartz says the four months programme is a bilateral agreement between NYS and National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) of South Africa, to expose the youth to community development projects and provide opportunities to undertake community service in the two countries.

“This programme will also allow the youth to undertake some basic skills training,” he adds. Swartz says the first phase of the second round of the exchange programme was in South Africa in September 2015 and ended this February.

“As part of the exchange programme, the Namibian and South African youth will be paired together and deployed across the country to carry out voluntary services from May until October,” he explains.

The youth will provide services at various institutions, such as the Ministry of Sports, Youth and National Service, Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Global Entrepreneurship Network Namibia, Namibia Correctional Service, National Youth Council (NYC) and NYS. The South African Youth are expected to arrive in the country this week.
