Sampofu: Elections ensure democratic rights

KATIMA MULILO – It was all systems go at exactly 07h00 yesterday, as all polling stations opened on time in the Zambezi. 

As the polling gates opened, Zambezi governor Lawrence Sampofu was the first to cast his vote at the Ngweze Community Hall. Minutes later, Katima mayor John Ntemwa also cast his vote at the same venue.

“I am very excited to vote. It shows greater responsibility as a Namibian. It is very important to participate in this democratic exercise. Elections are very important for any nation. It ensures that citizens exercise their democratic rights,” he said shortly after casting his ballot paper at exactly 07h05.

Electoral Commission of Namibia electoral officer Lesley Simwanza expressed happiness, saying voting will continue as expected. 

Counting will commence immediately. 

The results will be announced at the respective polling stations, before being officially verified and uploaded at the constituency collation centres.
The Zambezi region has 52 163 eligible voters.
