WINDHOEK – Sanlam Namibia has selected Nyasha Nyaungwa,  a sub-editor at the Namibia Economist, a local weekly economic newspaper, to participate in the five-day Sanlam Summer School for Financial Journalists scheduled from October 28 to November 1 at the Roodevallei Country Lodge near Pretoria, South Africa. Sanlam randomly selected Nyaungwa during the official media appreciation breakfast hosted at the Polytechnic Hotel School yesterday in Windhoek.

The summer school is Sanlam’s response to the King ll Report on Corporate Governance in 2003 that called on the private sector to assist in training of financial journalists to develop investigative journalism for the improvement of corporate governance in Namibia. Sanlam Group Chief Executive Officer Tertuis Stears said they believe this would help hone and shape the financial reporting skills of Nyaungwa.

“We must trust and sincerely hope that this will be an additional value added to the writing and reporting on financial matters and hope that this will create a new chapter in the life of the selective journalist,“ he said. International media trainer Liz Bartlett will be the anchor lecturer with other guest speakers delivering presentations.
