OPUWO – Opuwo circuit education inspector Naftali Uusiku said learners enrolled in schools where all grades are offered will not be allowed to switch schools.
This policy is designed to maintain stability within schools by ensuring that enrolled pupils remain at their schools.
It allows for better allocation of spaces and support for newcomers.
Uusiku’s statement follows concerns raised by parents over unprocessed registrations for their children. They await placement, despite having submitted applications on time. In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, he assured that every learner who applied would be accommodated.
Uusiku said the circuit has placed over 90% of the applicants.
“We have fewer than 10 applicants remaining. They will be placed shortly. We cannot allow learners to stay at home. They need to be placed.
Requests from parents wanting to move their children to other schools will not be accommodated. Learners should remain at their current schools,” he said.
He noted that long-term solutions have been developed to address the issue of overcrowding.
Uusiku said transfer programmes should rather focus on utilising existing spaces in schools to accommodate learners from overcrowded schools.
This would create competition for space with incoming learners, particularly those transitioning from primary schools.
He pointed out that the intake challenges for grades 8 and 10 were successfully addressed last year.
All learners who passed were placed automatically in schools with available space within the circuit.
