A Namdeb helicopter from Oranjemund has joined a search-and-rescue team dispatched to Lüderitz to search for a 57-year-old owner of a crayfish vessel who appears to have been swept out to sea after his vessel experienced problems.

The owner of the small crayfish vessel m/v Moira D, Peter-John Raubenheimer, was at sea when his vessel experienced mechanical problems. He apparently got out of the vessel, which was when he disappeared under a strong undercurrent at 02h30 early on Saturday morning.

The vessel reportedly experienced suspected propeller damage, had a leakage and its speed was diminished. At the time Raubenheimer disappeared he was in the company of Aldo Zane Pieterson and crewmember Darren Bradley Bester.

!Kharas regional crime investigation coordinator Deputy Police Commissioner Rudolf Isakk confirmed the incident yesterday morning and said Raubenheimer was still missing.
