The coastal branch of SAGES Namibia will for the 30th year running host the annual five-day SAGES Inter Branch Golf tourney at the Rossmund Golf Course, near Swakopmund.

Tienie Mouton, area manager for the Erongo Region of main sponsor First National Bank, recently presented the committee with their contribution of N$38 500 towards the costs of the tournament.

Mouton said: “During the course of the week it is expected that over 70 golfers from all over Namibia and South Africa will take to the fairways for a week of golf and camaraderie. This tournament is the major annual golfing event for senior golfers.

“We’re pleased to note that we will be joined once again this year by the national president of SAGES of South Africa, Bokkie Nel. FNB Namibia is proud to be associated with the tournament, which remains a highlight on the coastal sports calendar,” said Mouton.

He added that golf is a game in which one endeavours to control a ball with implements ill-adapted for the purpose. “A golf ball is a small object that remains on the tee, while a perspiring citizen fans it vigorously with a large club. To all or players visitors and locals alike, enjoy the week and remember only the great shots and all the awesome putts.”

The format for the tourney is Individual Stableford and will be played over four days – golfers compete in teams of four with three scores to count on each day. Daily scores are accumulated and at the end of the week a winning team will take home the laurels.

Each day’s golf culminates in a prize-giving ceremony, where individual golfers are rewarded. On Friday evening the week winds down with a gala dinner, where the overall winning team will be rewarded and presented with the coveted trophy.

A tournament of this magnitude cannot be successful without the support of reliable and loyal sponsors, such as FNB Namibia, Plantech Engineering (John Redman); Dolphin Pharmacy (Leonie & Johan Swanepoel); E Hard-Build Centre (Mark Egner) and L R Parts (Johan van Niekerk), most of whom have been on board for many years.
