Shalulile hints at Sundowns exit

Shalulile hints at Sundowns exit

Namibian international and Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Peter Shalulile sent shockwaves through the football fraternity on Monday evening when he dropped a cryptic message which left fans emotional and pundits buzzing. Following Sundowns’ DStv Premiership title triumph, the prolific striker, who has been the heartbeat of the club’s attacking line, hinted that his time at Chloorkop may be drawing to a close.

“This is my last league medal. I will see you guys some other time,” Shalulile stated during the post-match celebrations – words that many interpreted as a farewell.

Although no official statement has been released by the club or the player himself, the speculation surrounding his future has intensified.

His contract is due to expire next month, although it includes a two-year renewal option. Despite this, international transfer whispers suggest that the forward could be heading north, with Al-Hilal SC of Sudan and several Middle Eastern clubs reportedly expressing interest. One unnamed club is rumoured to be offering a package close to US$600 000 (approximately N$11 million). Middle Eastern clubs, known for their lucrative deals and tax-free packages, present an appealing destination for African players in their prime—particularly those like Shalulile, who have already proven their worth on the domestic stage.

Since joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020, he has become a household name in South African football, helping the club to multiple league titles and establishing himself as one of the most consistent goalscorers on the continent.

He has so far scored 100 goals in Sundowns’ colours – just 10 short of Daniel ‘Mambush’ Mudau’s legendary tally of 110 goals for the club.

In the broader context of South African football history, Shalulile’s record is equally impressive. He currently sits just behind Siyabonga Nomvethe, who retired with 129 goals, and holds 127 Premier Soccer League goals, combining his time at Sundowns and other clubs.

Still, not everyone is convinced that a move is imminent. Sports analyst Jovita Kandjumbwa weighed in on the swirling rumours, offering a more cautious perspective. “I haven’t heard of any concrete teams officially going after him. Until something is signed, I think fans shouldn’t panic,” she remarked.
