OSHAKATI – New Era Publication Corporation (NEPC) has embarked on a mission to shift the narrative that news is only about negativity.
Last week, a team of senior managers, led by Chief Executive Officer Christof Maletsky, held a stakeholder engagement session in Oshakati with representatives from both the public and private sectors across the northern regions.
“We are often under the impression that negative news sells. However, people also want to know what government and institutions are doing. As the link between government and the people, we are here to say: help us tell your success story. How can we tell it better? And when I speak of New Era, I am not only referring to the newspaper, but to New Era as a comprehensive news hub,” Maletsky said.
He explained that NEPC has grown into a formidable media house, offering a wide range of services including live streaming of events, digital news publications, and training for media and information professionals. Over the years, the company has provided skills development for employees from other institutions, as well as unemployed graduates, through its trainee and internship programmes. Maletsky further noted that many institutions across the country are making significant contributions, but their impact often goes unnoticed. As an example, he cited Oniipa Town Council’s recent donation of a building to serve as a fully-fledged police station. The facility has drastically reduced the distance – previously up to 45 kilometres – that community members had to travel to report cases or await police response.
“Such achievements are important for the public to know, as they highlight the positive efforts of institutions and the services available within communities,” he emphasised.
