ONGWEDIVA – Namibia’s police chief has warned his officials against participating in political activities.
Lieutenant general of the Namibian Police, Joseph Shikongo, urged men and women in uniform to remain apolitical in their undertakings. He said he was informed of police officers involved in political activities, which is against the law and the police code of conduct.
“I am so disturbed to hear cases of officers involved in politics. The management and I will not tolerate those engaging in politics while serving the Namibian Police force,” he stressed.
He said this during the closing ceremony of the Namibian Police Force Command Conference on Friday in Ongwediva.
Shikongo urged the officers to get ready to navigate through the elections, and ensure that every Namibian feels a sense of security when participating in the democratic process of the elections, slated for 27 November this year.
“We don’t want to hear a Namibian lost a life because of violence or conflict. Therefore, it is our duty to ensure that we maintain law and order, and preserve the peace of our republic. That can only be done if all of us understand what we are supposed to do as commanders,” he advised.
Reshuffle
At the same event, the police commander announced a reshuffle and promotion of senior commanders, saying that the movements are in the best interest of the country.
Shikongo stated that he has effected the transfers, appointments, and promotions of the officers to fill the positions that were left vacant because of service terminations.
Among those promoted was chief inspector Swaama Melanie Mburuu, who was promoted to the rank of deputy commissioner. She is expected to take over as head of the regional crime investigations division of the Ohangwena region.
Chief inspector Johannes Mwatongwe has been promoted to the rank of deputy commissioner, and will head the regional crime investigations unit in the Hardap region.
Shikongo further transferred commissioner Johanna Ndahafa Ngondo from the Kavango East region to the office of the inspector general, advisory office, police national headquarters, Windhoek, Khomas region, and appointed a staff officer in the advisory office, office of the inspector general, police national headquarters, Windhoek, Khomas region.
Commissioner Andreas Kanyanga Haingura was transferred from the Omaheke region to the Kavango East region, and appointed as the regional commander of that region. Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze was transferred from Otjozondjupa to the Omaheke region.
Shikongo also transferred and appointed deputy commissioner Philip Nhuleipo Hidengwa from the regional crime investigations of Kunene to the Otjozondjupa region, where he will serve as the regional commander.
Shikongo transferred deputy commissioner Eric Clay from the Hardap crime investigations division to head of the Kunene crime investigations division.
Deputy commissioner Moses Ndumbah Simaho was transferred from the Omusati crime investigations division to the criminal investigations directorate, police national headquarters, and appointed as a staff officer in the office of the head of the criminal investigation sdirectorate.
Shikongo said deputy commissioner Zachariah Amakali of the Ohangwena crime investigations coordination division was transferred to the Omusati region in the same position.
Deputy commissioner Mathew Hambelela Nakadhilu was transferred from the Oshikoto region administration division to the same division in the Khomas region. Deputy commissioner James Jackobus Nandapo was transferred from the Khomas region to Oshikoto in the same position.
Lieutenant general Shikongo transferred deputy commissioner Robert Kaulinge from the Khomas region, infrastructure protection division, to the Otjozondjupa region, and appointed him as the head of the border and infrastructure protection division. Moreover, Shikongo transferred deputy commissioner Ndeshihafela Peter Shapumba from the Otjozondjupa region, border and infrastructure protection division, to the Khomas region, and appointed him as the head of the division.
