Shinima gears up for WBC Africa title clash

The countdown is on as Namibian Super- Welterweight boxer Charles Shinima, backed by AC Promotion, prepares for a career-defining showdown on 1 March at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg.

Shinima will face South African champion Brendon Thyssen in a highly anticipated battle for the WBC Africa title.

With just two weeks until fight night, Shinima is in peak physical condition and determined to seize the opportunity to become the new WBC Africa champion.

The 29-year-old, known for his dynamic fighting style, has been training relentlessly to ensure he’s both physically and mentally ready for the challenge ahead.

Immanuel ‘AC’ Moses , Shinima’s promoter, expressed full confidence in his fighter’s preparation and future success. “He has been training like never before. He is in the best shape of his life, and he is completely focused on winning the WBC Africa title. Thyssen is a tough opponent, but Shinima is ready to make his mark and leave the ring as the new champion on 1 March.”

Thyssen, a powerful and aggressive fighter, holds the South African title, but Shinima is unfazed and confident in his game-plan. “I am feeling super-cool. I have trained hard, and I am in top shape. This is my moment. I respect Thyssen, but I have put in the work, and I know my capabilities. On 1 March, I’ll prove to the world that I am ready to become the WBC Africa champion,” said Shinima.

He has a professional boxing record of 18 wins and one loss. His most recent bout was on 14 September 2024, when he secured a victory over Stefanus Kakololo Josua by technical knockout in the third round.

Shinima’s sole defeat occurred on 22 March 2024 against Denis Nurja in Tirana, Albania, where he retired due to injury in the fourth round. Notably, he has achieved 12 knockouts in his career, whereas his opponent Thyssen has a professional boxing record of 17 wins, four losses and one draw, with 17 knockouts in 22 bouts.

Thyseen’s most recent fight was on 16 December 2023, where he secured a fourth-round technical knockout victory over Sherif Kasongo in Lusaka, Zambia.
