RUNDU – All Peoples Party (APP) president Ignatius Shixwameni on Saturday urged APP supporters to register for the elections in November to be able to cast their vote for the party and boost its profile on the political landscape.
Addressing a quite well attended APP rally at Dr Romanus Kampungu sports field in Rundu, the APP leader urged APP supporters to be ready to vote in the presidential and National Assembly elections.
“Elections 2014 is around the corner and our party is going to participate in the second elections since its establishment, so we must make sure we take the elections very seriously,” he said. Shixwameni said the elections would be very decisive for all the contesting parties and even more important for the APP because “whatever the outcome, we must indicate to the whole nation that indeed APP is the future and is a force to be reckoned with and to be carefully watched by Namibians and indeed the world.”
Shixwameni, a former student leader and ex-Swapo member and MP, urged all “democracy and peace-loving Namibians to register as voters who will be able to change things”, adding that people should vote for women and men of integrity who can address people’s concerns and interests.
“Vote wisely in order to change the current state of affairs that favours the rich and the well politically connected,” he stressed, adding that people could bring about change by voting for the APP.
Shixwameni said voters and particularly APP supporters should stop being “lied to” with empty promises that last until the next elections.
“This year countrymen and women, think and think carefully and vote wisely and think about your children as well as grandchildren’s future –both their future and the present. “
The APP rally attracted a crowd estimated at 350.
