WINDHOEK – Forty-five health workers in the Ministry of Health and Social Services from the country’s 14 regions have been capacitated to improve the management and delivery of immunisation services, through a two-week course on mid-level management of expanded immunisation programmes, a first of its kind to be conducted in Namibia.
The training took place in Rundu between October 07 and 16. The skills development is to enable health workers to implement programmes that would accelerate achievement of child survival goals and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.
According to a statement by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the availability of skilled managers and service providers is one way of improving quality immunisation services.
The course objective is to amongst others build capacity for strengthening routine immunisation and help countries attain the WHO target of fully immunising 90 percent of children at national level, with at least 80 percent Pentavalent-3 coverage in every district, the statement said.
Health and Social Services Minister Dr Richard Kamwi and WHO Country representative, Dr Magda Robalo, handed over certificates to participants yesterday.
