Sinimbo: Opposition has no capacity

MURURANI – Swapo lawmaker Verna Sinimbo says opposition parties have no capacity to lead the country.

She said only Swapo can govern the country.

She made the remarks while addressing a rally at Mururani village in Kavango West at the weekend.

“Swapo is the only party that liberated the country; for the past 35 years, Swapo has done a lot in terms of bringing development. Now that we have been liberated, we are fighting for economic emancipation.  The Swapo government has over the years established ministries and entities to serve Namibians, and to develop this country for the people to benefit from their liberated country’s resources,’’ she said.

The parliamentarian said the Swapo-led government, through different ministries, has been providing services and assistance to many people in different sectors.

“The government of Namibia, through Swapo, has over the years brought services to the needy, although not at once. But as resources became available, different areas are getting the needed development and services,’’ she added.

Sinimbo told the crowd that if given another chance, Swapo will do more for their village and country.

While addressing a mini-rally, she said many people fought for Namibia’s independence – not only those who went into exile, but those who remained also played a pivotal role.

“Some left the country, but some remained. While others were fighting outside the country, those who remained were also fighting from inside to liberate this country; both suffered, not only those who went out. Those who remained also supported those who were outside; many people were aiding those who fought internally, and were fearless because they wanted this country to be free,” Sinimbo said.

The lawmaker said the government recently drilled three boreholes at Mururani village to boost the availability of water; the shack dwellers programme has registered members who have been allocated land and are set to start the construction of their houses soon. In addition, the village has a fully-fledged Combined school; a police station; and offices of the ministry of agriculture, both with staff accommodation.

“There is no political party that can do what Swapo has done in the past years; some parties have won constituencies or got some local authorities, but have failed dismally. all they do is fight each other. Don’t let them lie to you that they can manage a country; they are unable to handle small responsibilities, but Swapo has over the years mastered the art, and has capable people with vast experience; we come a long way. What we are asking for is another chance to govern for the next five years so that we continue building the Namibian house, continuity,’’ she noted.

Sinimbo said Swapo’s achievements are visible.

“Some of these people coming to your village begging you to give them a chance have lived their lives in Europe and married European wives, and now they came back and established a party to tell you that they love this country. Why did they not come at independence and start building this country with others? What was he waiting for until now?” she asked.

“He is not coming alone; he wants to take us back to be colonised by his European in-laws; he wants to take us back to be colonised by whites; they will come for our oil, our diamonds and other natural resources, and leave us with nothing. They are coming to strategically place themselves so they take our wealth; the Swapo government will take this country to prosperity, and is busy educating the nation to take over positions in new-found industries like oil and gas,’’ she said.

Sinimbo narrated and highlighted areas of focus from the recently-unveiled 2024 election manifesto.
