Sixteen DebMarine Premier League matches are lined-up this weekend with defending champions, African Stars to square off against Unam FC at Independence Stadium in a match that starts at 19h00.
Both teams are yet to get off the mark after they failed to play their matches last weekend. Stars was set to play Young African, while Unam were fixtured against Civics who are all facing challenges due to technicalities relating to club ownership.
However, tonight both teams would have an opportunity to collect their first points of the season.
Speaking about tonight’s match, Stars head coach Ronnie Kanalelo said his charges are ready for the assignment.
“Unam is a good team, and I have worked with a lot of players on their team, and I know what to expect from them, and I think this will be a great game to make our mark in the new season.”
He added: “I don’t have any expectations, we will just go there and take the match as any game and give it our all to collect maximum points.”
Tomorrow action will continue with last season’s third place finisher, Khomas Nampol welcoming Rundu outfit, Julinho Sporting in a tie at Unam Stadium in the capital at 16h00.
Meanwhile, in Keetmanshop’s Westdene Stadium, Young Brazilian will take to the field against newly promoted, Cuca Tops. Gundolf Mukoya the head coach of Cuca Tops said their tie against Brazilian won’t be easy, but he hopes to continue the momentum.
“We collected maximum points last week, and this is a new week, different game and different team, but I am positive of keeping the momentum going by winning away from home,” he said.
The Gobabis outfit who are currently homeless after the Legare Stadium was declared unfit for use by the municipality, will take their match to Mariental this weekend as they host Civics at Persianer Sport Stadium in a match set to start at 16h00.
Seventh placed Blue Boys will lock horns Blue Boys at Vineta Stadium on Saturday, with the tie set to begin at 14h00. At the same venue tomorrow, Blue Waters who occupy 10th spot on the log standings will take on Eeshoke Chula Chula at 17h00.
At Okahandja’s Nau-Aib Stadium, Okahandja United will square off against last year’s league runners up FC Ongos in a tie expected to be full of spills and thrills. Meanwhile, Mighty Gunners will take to the field to face Tigers at Etoshapoort Stadium at 16h00.
On Sunday action will continue with Khomas Nampol welcoming newbies Cuca Tops at Unam Stadium at 15h00, while Young Brazilian will take on Julinho Sporting at Keetmaanshop’s Westdene Stadium at 14h00.
At Persiane Stadium in Mariental, Young African will take on Unam FC in a match set for 16h00. African Stars, on the other hand, will lock horns with Civics at Independence Stadium with the match scheduled for 16h00.
In Swakopmund’s Vineta Stadium, fans would be treated to a double header as Blue Waters is set to play newbies KK Palace in a match set for 13h30, followed by a tie between Blue Boys and Eeshoke Chula Chula at 16h30.
