ONGWEDIVA – Police in the Oshikoto region are in possession of human remains discovered by a community member at Oniifa village on Tuesday.

According to the police, the human bones were discovered by a villager who was digging a water canal on Tuesday.

“The man was digging a water canal when he discovered the human remains,” related Inspector Stephan Nuuyi of the Oshikoto regional police.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that there was a body buried where the remains were found.

Police interrogated elderly members from the village, including an 84-year-old resident.
No case has been opened yet and the remains are now kept at a mortuary in Oshikoto region.

In a separate case in Oshikoto region, a murder case was opened against known suspects who allegedly beat 31-year-old, Gabriel Fernandu, to death at Onambudu village in Omuthiya.

It is alleged the deceased succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was severely beaten on September 28 by suspects who remain at large.
It is alleged the deceased after the beating opened a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm before he was taken to Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital.

Fernandu was immediately transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital where he was hospitalised until he succumbed to his injuries.
Fernandu died on October 14 and his next of kin have been informed. No arrest has been made.
