SWAKOPMUND – Championship favourites, SKW 1 and Cohen FC 3, took the lead in the Bank Windhoek National Fistball A and B Leagues respectively, in the first league encounters that took place at the SFC Sport Club in Swakopmund last weekend.

Defending champions SKW 1, had a bad start  to their campaign in the National A League when they suffered a 3:4 shock defeat against club mates SKW 2. Imawida regrouped later in the day by winning 4:1 against Cohen FC 2 and SFC Sport Club respectively to claim first spot. SKW 2 gave a good performance throughout the day, through inspirational captain, Christoph Kubirske, who was also named DANRIC Auto Player of the Day. The Germans ended the day in 3rd place on the log standings behind 2nd placed Cohen FC 1.

Hosts SFC Sport Club did not have a good day at the office and even though they won their game against Cohen FC 2 in straight sets, the seasiders failed to demonstrate their true potential in subsequent matches. In the National B league Cohen FC 3, led by former Namibian international, Wilfried Hacker, showed impeccable form by winning all their matches without dropping a set to claim an impressive 6-point lead ahead of 2nd placed SFC 2 and DTS, who are perched in 3rd spot after winning their matches against SKW 3 and Cohen FC 4. The next league matches will be played in Windhoek on the 5th of next month, while it will also be the last time that the U-18 national team players will be in action before departing to Brazil for the U-18 World championships.
