WINDHOEK – SKW tennis team took full advantage of the top-of-the-table clash between CTC”A” and CTC “B” to move up the log to second place at the NTA inter-club tennis league in Windhoek, last weekend.
The youthful Imawida side defeated CTC-OTB by 5 matches without a reply bagging 19 points in the process. The Germans are now lying 2nd on the overall log standings behind CTC “B”.
The stand-out match of the weekend was doubtleesly in the SKW-CTC-OTB clash where SKW top player Codie van Schalkwyk won a tough 3-set battle against CTC-OTB’s number one player Peter Brinkmann. The youngster ticked off Brinkmann 6/4, 4/6 and 7/5.
In other action, young Connor van Schalkwyk white-washed veteran campiagner Robert Riethmueller in straight sets in the other singles match. In the doubles, the van Schalkwyk brothers teamed up to get the better of CTC-OTB’s pairing of Greg Chase and Bas Rijnen 6/3 6/2 while the Brinkmann/Riethmueller partnership failed to match the strength of SKS’s Oliver Diggle/Norman Makuwaza 1/6 0/6.
In the top-of the table clash, CTC “B” remained top on the log by disptaching CTC “A” by 3 matches to 2 and by 14 points to 6 with CTC “A”’s Kallie Heese beating Walter Kamukono 6/1 6/4 whilst CTC “B”’s Nqobilizwe Moyo defeated CTC “A”’s Colin Nyandoro 6/1 6/1 in the other singles match.
In the doubles, Kamukono and Moyo teamed up to triumph over CTC “A”’s Eno Akpabio and Patrick Paulus 6/2 6/1 while Heese and Nyandoro beat the CTC “B” partnership of Sam Kaulinge and Ndumiso Moyo 6/1 6/2. The latter pair had earlier defeated the Akpabio/Paulus combination 6/4 6/4.
The league continues on November 1 with CTC “A” playing NAMPOL, CTC “B” playing UNAM and CTC “C” clashing with CTC-OTB.
