WINDHOEK – In what can be easily interpreted as a bid to tighten their stronghold on the coveted MTC Premiership crown, undisputed Namibia champions Black Africa, has beefed up their already talent laden playing personnel.
The club announced during their year-end prize giving ceremony in Windhoek last Saturday, the capturing of former Tigers and Amazulu FC’s fast as lightning winger, Pineas ‘Heel Extension’ Jakob, on a free-transfer following his release by the South African Professional Soccer League (PSL).
The Brave Warriors forward has been struggling for game time since joining the Kwazulu-Natal outfit at the beginning of last season and was subsequently deemed surplus.
The much-travelling Jakob had stints with Ramblers and Civics before he returned to parent club Tigers in the domestic league ahead of his much trumpeted move to Usuthu.
Eyeing a second bite at the lucrative and prestigious CAF Champions League, Black Africa has also boosted their squad with the arrival of Merwyn Haraseb from traditional rivals Orlando Pirates in a move that will not go exactly well down the throats of their success starved neigbours.
Meanwhile, fast improving midfielder McBride Ndjavera, who enjoyed a stellar season with African Stars while on loan from BA through the latter part of last season, has found refuge with South Africa’s second tier outfit, Ga-Rankuwa United FC.
The nimble-footed midfielder had a trial with Bidvest Wits and although he impressed the technical staff, he was posted to the second division campaigners to gain more experience.
Elsewhere, Brave Warriors stalwart defender and former BA skipper, Da Costa Angula made a somewhat lukewarm debut for his new club Free States Stars in the PSL season opener against Kaizer Chiefs, last Friday.
Stars lost the match 1-0 after a goalmouth mixed up involving Angula and his fellow defenders, as they failed to clear their lines – allowing a lurking George Lebese to scramble the ball home for the only goal of the match.
Still in the PSL, Warriors inspirational captain Stigga Ketjijere, made an impressive start for University of Pretoria (Amatuks) in their 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City over the weekend. Although he was withdrawn midway through the 2nd half, the Namibian had a good game and putting together a handful of killer passes, notably in the opening half.
Namibian stalwart defender, Dudes Mwedihanga, was back to his usual best as the towering defender saw out the entire 90-minutes of Amazulu’s goalless draw against the visiting Ajax Cape Town.
Injury plagued defender Larry Horaeb, goatee bearded veteran midfielder, Heini Isaacks, shot-stopper, Virgil Vries, did not feature for their respective clubs Amazulu, Bloemfontein Celtic and Maritzburg United. Veteran striker, Henrico Botes, watched his new club Bidvest Wits defeat Supersport United 1-0 from the dugout.
