The 2024 State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) sports games will commence today and end Saturday in the northern town of Oshakati, with teams set to battle it out for honours.

Chairman of the Public Enterprises CEO’s Forum, Fluksman Samuehl, said the games are aimed at strengthening ties and networking among state-owned enterprises.

“This platform further allows us to exchange views on governance, reflect deeply in terms of overall management of public enterprises and renew our commitments to the service of the Namibian people through the privileged positions we occupy.

“As leaders of public enterprises, this opportunity allows us to learn from one another, strengthen cooperation among public enterprises and unite our employees through sports,” he said.

This year’s 9th annual games will see over 30 enterprises with more than 1 500 participants competing in eight sports codes, namely football, netball, tug-of-war, 4×100 metres for men and women, 10-kilometre run and volleyball, snooker/pool and darts.

Samuehl called on residents of Oshana and surrounding regions to come in their numbers and witness various teams engage in a competitive sporting spirit.

He also said they expect stiff competition at this year’s games which have been in existence since 2015.

Last year saw NamWater dominating the three-day event held in Rietfontein, Otjozondjupa region when they won the women’s and men’s 10-kilometre races, women’s relay, mixed tug-of-war, and netball.

The National Youth Service claimed gold in the men’s relay, while the mixed volleyball competition was won by NamPower.

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation emerged victorious in football, while the mixed darts competition was won by Agribank.
