KEETMANSHOOP – The Keetmanshoop Police has arrested a 29-year-old man for the murder of a six year old boy in the town’s Tseiblaagte suburb early Friday morning.

According to  the Crime Investigations Co-ordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the //Karas Region, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaaks, the boy was allegedly beaten and strangled to death while his two seven year old friends looked on. The boy and his mother, as well as the person suspected of killing the boy stayed in the same yard and he was killed ostensibly to hurt the mother cry. Isaaks also said the suspect reportedly had relationships with other women, relationships which he wished to be kept secret, but believed the mother of the boy would expose to his girlfriend.

“The boy and the suspect stayed in one yard in two different shacks, and he (the suspect) told the mother of the deceased that he would make her cry,” Isaaks said. The mother who works at a shebeen in the town was at work during the incident and only arrived home to find her son dead. “The boy was home with two seven year old boys who witnessed how he was beaten and strangled. It is alleged that the six year old was beaten and strangled and when the suspect realised the boy was dead he took him and laid him on his mother’s bed,” explained Isaaks. The suspect is expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate Court today.
