By Sbu Mjikeliso WINDHOEK Delegates from the Limpopo Province in South Africa are currently in the country in a bid to partner up with Namibia’s ecological, economic and tourism sectors. The visit precedes a later visit by the MEC for Economic Development in Limpopo, Collin Chabane, which is scheduled for later in the year. The delegation, which consists of five members, will address issues of public service delivery while simultaneously gathering information on tourism and ecosystems in the northern regions of Namibia such as Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshana and Oshikoto. “The Limpopo technical officials are currently in talks about holding a partnership with Namibia’s socio-economic divisions. “As the eco-system in Limpopo has similarities with the one in the four northern regions, information on the development of indigenous fruits, such as marula, and the boom in hunting has captured their interest,” Counsellor at the South African High Commission, Mthembisi Mjikeliso said. The South African High Commissioner, Timothy Maseko, said that the exploration to be done by these officials includes possible partnerships in areas of co-operation and social services. The talks are meant to strengthen the relationship between the neighbouring countries, Maseko added. Namibia is set to benefit from these joint ventures, according to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, Erastus Negonga. This ties in together with NEPAD’s vision to provide sustainable development to impoverished areas of southern Africa.
