WINDHOEK – There are new faces in the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Windhoek Committee following the annual general meeting last week.
The new 11-member committee comprises of mostly business professionals. Benjamin Ulrich is the new SPCA chairperson, with veteran animal welfare officer Sylvia Breitenstein as the vice-chairperson.
Zimbabwean veterinarian Dr Shepherd Sajani, who has been operating in Windhoek for some time now, has also joined the committee in an advisory capacity. Biologist Debbie Gibson is the secretary, while Donna Collins is the spokesperson.
Other committee members are Ulrike Von Mallinckrodt, Erika von Gierszeski, Jolene Nel, Brian Sandham, Erika Hecker and Hilda-Marie Burger as the treasurer.
“I see the way forward for the SPCA as brimming with opportunities in terms of brand reinvigoration, fundraising and growth. We have a very dynamic and diverse team this year, which includes years of experience in animal welfare, as well as expertise in many other avenues with skills that add value.
“It was evident at our first meeting held last week that this team brings along a lot of positive energy to the table, which will hopefully help to grow the SPCA to the levels I see possible, both in terms of revenue and in terms of the wellbeing of the animals,” said the new chairperson Ulrich.
