The Klein Windhoek Squash Club (KWSC) is inviting its members as well as the interested public to its first Open Day on Saturday, at 09h00. The Alexander Forbes Klein Windhoek Squash Club Open Day provides an opportunity to get to know and experience the inclusive sport of squash, while enjoying professional coaching and advice, competitive show games, music, good food, and community. One of Namibia’s top squash coaches is to share tips and assist beginners hitting their first ball. Many of Namibia’s leading players will be in action to showcase their talent. A locally renowned biokineticist has been roped in to provide instruction on proper stretching, warm-up techniques and general information to promote healthy lifestyles.
The Namibia Squash Association and the team of Klein Windhoek Squash Club will also be on hand to answer questions about the local squash community, tourneys and the club.
Short-term membership as well as discounts on membership will be available on June 4 only. “We are hoping to elevate the visibility of squash in Namibia and attract more players, especially women and youth to this inclusive sport,” said Bjarne Graupe, Chairman of KWSC.
Gwen Lister, one of Namibia’s top ranked female squash players is the patron of the gathering. Proceedings get underway with the welcoming and introduction of participants by the Namibia Squash Association, in conjunction with the Klein Windhoek Squash Club.
The first exhibition match is slated for 10h00 to be followed by lesson sessions about the game’s specific training methods, a session with the coach and an intro about the right equipment. An hour later, two of the country’s squash professionals are to showcase their talent in another exhibition match. The club’s committee, coach and health expert will also be available for questions from 09h00 until 14h00, when visitors will be allowed to pose and receive response to all questions on how to hit their first ball. Music, catering and a raffle competition will be the cherry on the cake of a highly anticipated good day of fun and entertainment. Klein Windhoek Squash Club is located at the corner of Kuiseb and Omatako streets (opposite the NG Church Eros). Protected parking is available and the event is open to the public free of charge.
