Stabbing accused granted bail

Home Crime and Courts Stabbing accused granted bail

WINDHOEK – A young man accused of carrying out a near fatal stabbing on two friends was granted bail of N$5 000 without additional bail conditions in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

PaulBroun Jagger is alleged to have stabbed John Rooi several times with a knife in his face and neck with the intent to murder him. On Monday Jagger informed magistrate Justine Asino himself that he did not only stab Rooi, but also another man named Wikus April. He wanted the court to lower his bail to N$2 000, since according to him April did not lay a charge against him. However, prosecutor Samantha Diergaardt informed Asino that only one case was opened by both victims and requested a remand for further investigation as a statement from April is still outstanding.

Diergaardt said that the State agreed to bail being granted, because both victims are out of hospital and recuperating at home and that the accused will face two counts of attempted murder. Jagger who indicated at his first appearance that he would apply for Legal Aid was urged by Asino to follow-up on his Legal Aid application, since the charges he is facing are serious. The case was remanded to February 28 next year for further investigation and for the accused to obtain legal aid.
