Stand firm behind Swapo – Shifeta

Stand firm behind Swapo – Shifeta

NKURENKURU – Swapo central committee member, Pohamba Shifeta, has urged residents of Bunya village to stand firm behind Swapo and ensure they “don’t slap history as what is happening in other countries”.

Speaking at a rally held at Bunya in Kavango West on Saturday, Shifeta said people must go house to house to educate each other, as there are those who “don’t want former liberation movements to be in charge because they are hindering their agendas”.

“I want to make it clear that I’m not saying it is bad to have change anywhere, and neither am I interfering in the election of a country because that’s the democratic right of any nation to vote for any political party or person,” he said.

Shifeta said Swapo fought to bring peace to this country, and that peace should be maintained, but peace alone does not fill the stomach, peace alone does not make things happen. “We need to look at delivery of service,” he said.

He said the Swapo-led government has done a lot in the 34 years after independence, although people don’t want to acknowledge and accept that.

Although Namibia is a vast country, the government has still managed to cover a large portion of it with new infrastructure, he said.

“They’re saying Swapo did not do anything, but they are not remembering that they promise so many things as usual: ‘we are going to bring this’ and some of them even promised lots of grants to the elderly and money to people, forgetting that’s not how you develop a country. You develop a country by making people work hard, create conditions for people to work for themselves and that’s what Swapo believes in,” he said.

Shifeta urged voters to stay “sober” on the day of the election to avoid voting for the wrong candidate or making mistakes on the ballot paper.

Namibians will vote for the President and new lawmakers on 27 November 2024.
