WINDHOEK – On Wednesday Standard Bank Namibia awarded N$5 000 to the winner of the Economist Businesswomen Northern Conference: Business Idea Competition. The winning business concept was entered by four women, namely Diina Shimweefeleni, Anton a Antonio, Peneyambeko Ndakolo and Lydia Shadjuuka. The bank’s sponsorship serves as start-up capital for their business idea called Elundu-Oushake Auction Kraal – a livestock food mini-market.

“We are glad to be associated with such a worthy cause that will ultimately lead to the enhancement of women in our communities. At Standard Bank Namibia we are extremely happy to be co-sponsor of this initiative as we realize the importance of women in our society,” said Surihe Gaomas, Standard Bank Namibia’s Public Relations and Communications Manager.

The new business idea competition is aimed at stimulating creative thinking and to provide a platform for women to pursue new and creative business ventures.

In August this year, Standard Bank Namibia contributed a N$55 000 sponsorship towards the 2013 Economist Businesswomen Conference held in Ongwediva. While N$50 000 of that amount was allocated for the success of the conference, N$5 000 was geared as start-up capital for the winner of the Best Business Idea Competition being run by the Economist Businesswomen Club.

The Namibia Business Innovation Centre will assist the winner with a formal business plan that will be presented to a financial institution for funding. Telecom Namibia was the other co-sponsor of this initiative.
