Stanlib donates another wheelchair to Omusati learner

RUACANA – Fourteen-year-old Shekutamba Michael, a grade 7 learner at Dr. Albert Kawana Primary School, received a life changing gift on Friday when he received an upgraded wheelchair specially designed for sandy terrains.

Dr. Albert Kawana Primary School is located in the Eenawa village of Ruacana constituency.

The donation made by Stanlib Namibia, marks a continuation support for Michael who lives with a physical disability. Stanlib Namibia had previously donated a standard wheelchair to him in 2021.

Previously, Michael used a standard wheelchair which often got stuck in the sand, particularly on his way to school or during sport activities.

Philip Ashimbanga, a financial planner at Standard Bank Namibia and a resident of Ruacana, stated that he realised Michael’s need after visiting the area in 2021.

“I felt sorry for Michael. I reached out to companies, organizations and anyone kind enough to help him get a wheelchair and Stanlib Namibia came through for us,” Ashimbanga said.

Michael mother, Aina Hango shared the difficult times her family faced before receiving the first wheelchair.

She explained that Michael’s father used to carry him on his shoulders to school, with assistance from his younger brother. “Despite the long distance, we are determined to give our son a life as good as any child’s,” Hango stated.

Michael’s English teacher, Angels Walubita stated that he is a brilliant learner who actively attends to his schoolwork.

He managed to scoop 6th position out of 36 learners last year from grade 6.
