African Stars FC have won the 2025/2026 Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) season, sealing an impressive fourth consecutive league title after finishing top of the standings with 58 points.
Stars confirmed their dominance with a 2-0 victory over FC Ongos in their final match of the season at the Independence Stadium on Sunday. The win ensured they stayed just ahead of a determined Eeshoke Chula Chula FC side, who finished second with 57 points following a narrow 1-0 triumph over Bucks Buccaneers.
The title triumph further cements Stars’ status as a powerhouse in Namibian football. Their latest success adds to an extraordinary run of league victories in the 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25 and now 2025/26 seasons, underlining a period of excellence and consistency.
Speaking after the decisive win, club chairman Salomo Hei expressed pride in the team’s achievements, highlighting the discipline and unity that have driven their success.
“I am humbled by the commitment and consistency that the team has shown over the past four years. Three is historical; fourth is a charm,” he said.
He also acknowledged the strong challenge posed by Chula Chula throughout the season, noting that their emergence has added competitiveness to the league.
“We have been competing with them since they came on. They have beaten us twice in the Hage Geingob Cup. For Namibian football, we want a strong Chula Chula because that improves the overall product,” he added.
Despite narrowly missing out on the title, Chula Chula head coach John Sikerete reflected positively on his team’s campaign. He emphasised the progress made by his relatively young squad, which was assembled at the start of the season.
“This is a young and inexperienced team, but they have shown hunger, unity and great character throughout the season. Finishing second gives us strong motivation going forward,” Sikerete said.
Looking ahead, Sikerete confirmed that his side has already shifted focus to the upcoming Standard Bank Top 8 Cup.
Meanwhile, the season concluded on a disappointing note for Tigers FC, Rundu Chiefs and Life Fighters, who have been relegated from the topflight.
The top eight teams, African Stars, Eeshoke Chula Chula, Mighty Gunners, FC Ongos, KK Palace, Blue Waters, Unam FC and Eleven Arrows, have secured qualification for the Top 8 Cup.
The tournament is set to take place across Swakopmund, Outjo and Windhoek, promising more exciting football action as the country’s best teams battle for further honours.
‘Dakaza Boy’
Additionally, down South, Karasburg-based outfit Youth Brazilians FC secured a return to Namibia’s elite league after winning the Southern Stream First Division following a 0-0 draw against Friends FC. The ‘Dakaza Boy’, as Young Brazilians is affectionately known, was relegated from the Premier League last season. They were first promoted to the premier in the 2018/19 season.
