ONDANGWA

A delivery truck belonging to Metcargo Distribution Services that was hijacked last Sunday night was recovered some five kilometres outside Ondangwa.

Two armed men pounced on the truck driver, Johannes Gerson van der Byl, 65, and his assistant as they parked at Onethindi and forced the two to drive with them towards Oshikango. Later, the driver and his assistant were bundled into a pick-up and abandoned after travelling more than 20 kilometres. The carjackers drove off in the delivery truck.

The truck was carrying goods worth thousands of dollars. Some items were found missing when the truck was recovered.

Police Crime Coordinator in the Oshana Region, Chief Inspector Golden Naanda, said no arrests have been made yet. Naanda said such incidents were rare in the region.

He said the suspects could have abandoned their loot after they were disturbed by passersby and fled the scene.

Police were informed of the incident on Monday morning.
