WINDHOEK – Four people committed suicide over the weekend, Sergeant Slogan Mateus from the police public relations department said on Sunday.

Mateus revealed the deaths during the weekend crime update on Sunday.

Teofelus Kuutondokwa Shapaka, 18, hanged himself with a rope in his zinc house at Havanna informal settlement in Windhoek on Saturday.

No suicide note was left and his next of kin have been informed.

Also on Saturday, Shandino Bowe, 24, committed suicide by hanging himself in Khomasdal.

Mateus said the deceased hanged himself with a rope in a storeroom at their residence.

No suicide note was left behind, but it is alleged the deceased had attempted to hang himself on three previous occasions.

According to police records, the deceased had serious cases pending against him, including a count of murder. His next of kin have already been informed and police investigations continue.

Samuel Namab, 24, also committed suicide on Saturday – at Bruharos location in Berseba in the south of the country.

Namab hanged himself in his bedroom with a rope.

The motive for the suicide is unknown and the next of kin were already informed.

In Rosh Pinah, Franklin Engelbrecht, 23, committed suicide by overdosing on tablets on Saturday.

It is alleged the deceased was involved in a family quarrel, after which he ran into the house, locked himself inside a room and swallowed a cocktail of different tablets that were found in the room.

Family members rushed him to the private clinic at Rosh Pinah, where he later died.

It is alleged the quarrel was caused by the deceased’s unhappiness about his sister’s relationship with her present boyfriend.

The next of kin were already informed and police investigations continue.
