Many fans only know musicians from a distance and then concoct ideas of them based on what they see and hear, but Sally Boss Madam wants us to see a different side of her, “apart from the usual Sally doing dance moves and all that”.

She did so in her latest video, released just six days ago, for the song ‘Slow Down’. “I want the video to just be what I love to do, and to give the public the feeling of having front row seats at a Sally Boss Madam show,” she told VIBEZ!

“Basically, I just wanted to take what we do on stage and bring it into your hands or living room.” “I love to dance, and every now and then, I bring out the band and keep it classy.”

Shot in a high-rise building with the backdrop of Windhoek city, Sally is featured on stage in a little black dress with her three-piece band and two back-up singers, swaying to ‘Slow Down’. Break-away scenes show a sultry Sally in an inside setting in a vintage, old film cinematography effect, displaying the craftmanship of video producer Eric Muller, a long-time friend of Sally. Muller also shot her ‘Netso’ and ‘Mutale’ videos.

Sally said the motivation behind the video is her incredible band, adding that she is blessed to have people around her who bring out the best of her musically.

Of ‘Slow Down’, she said, it’s a song that speaks about “getting to know me for me”. It was produced by Zesh Domingo and aired exclusively on Fresh FM at its launch last November.

Sally described her Afro-pop or Afro-fusion genre as the best way to express herself, and it has always been satisfying and rewarding over the years.

Sally’s advice to up-and-coming musicians to become successful is to first do “your research and keep your eyes open for opportunities that can help you get where you want to be”.  “Don’t give up, because winners never give up on themselves.”

Asked about what fans can expect of her going forward, Sally said she is working on a project that is pretty close to completion.

Her personal life is also keeping her busy, saying: “as a mother, my son keeps me moving and busy. But always making time to put in some studio work or a selfie here and there for the gram”. – emilienashea@gmail.com
