Windhoek
One of six Namibian fugitives, implicated in a case of bank robbery in Angola who escaped from the holding cells in Lubango earlier this month, was nabbed in Windhoek over the weekend.
Marius Iipinge Jackie, 33, (nicknamed Cafude from Onawayakilian) from the Oshana Region is one of six men, who the head of the police public relations division Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi described as “hardcore criminals, who are also wanted in Namibia for a string of crimes, ranging from murder, attempted murder, possession of arms and ammunition, escape from lawful custody, housebreaking and theft.”
Jackie appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he gave a fake name: Marius Romanus, 30. New Era could not establish where exactly he was arrested, though unconfirmed reports suggested it was at a roadblock outside Windhoek.
His case was transferred to the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court, where he is facing a robbery with aggravating circumstances charge, dating back to 2007. Jackie will remain in custody until he makes his next court appearance on November 2.
The presiding magistrate was Hambeleleni Heita. The prosecutor was Granny Paulus.
The fugitives were arrested in Angola in February, following a bank robbery in Lubango, but escaped between October 4 and 5. Kanguatjivi could not specify how much cash they stole in Lubango. “They are regarded as dangerous and violent and may be armed,” he warned at the time.
He cautioned that members of the public should not attempt to apprehend the fugitives, but should rather contact the nearest police station, or get in touch directly with Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu on 0813783818, or Detective Chief Inspector Sakarias Amakali on 0812499692.
Still on the loose are Mateus Shinombelo Petrus, 45, (nicknamed Kashamane) from Oshikondiilongo, Gabriel Shinyemba Namupolo, 41, (nicknamed Ndjushwa & Chicken) from Olupumbu Lwashinyemba, – all from the Oshana Region – and Tomas Hipewabedi Amweelo, 33, (nicknamed Tommy or Ndjanane) from Engela in the Ohangwena Region. The other two are Daniel Natangwe Mbishi, 28, from Okatale near Odibo in the Ohangwena Region and David Simeon Aron, 34, (nicknamed @Slow) who was born in Kwanza Zul in Angola.
Kanguatjivi said anyone with information on their whereabouts should not be afraid of reprisals, as his or her identity would be protected by the police.
