WINDHOEK – Two men of Zimbabwe origin, who allegedly forced open the door of a house and gained entry and stole items in Wanaheda over the weekend, were denied bail when they appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court yesterday for a routine court appearance.
The suspects Nelson Muchucu, 19, and Israel Umedizo, 27, appeared before Magistrate George Mbundu facing a charge of housebreaking.
The State alleged they stole five cellphones worth N$3 547, one television set valued at N$2 000, one freezer valued at N$10 747 and an adapter valued at N$120, from Ester Iyambo’s home on Saturday.
State Prosecutor Anthony Wilson objected to the duo being granted bail because there is a high flight risk considering the fact the suspects are Zimbabweans who could easily abscond.
Their rights to legal representation were explained to them. The accused Muchucu indicated he would conduct his own legal defence, while his co-accused Umedizo said he would apply for a state funded attorney. The matter was remanded to October 23 to enable them to secure legal representation.
Chief Inspector Pretunilla Kauna Shikwambi told the regular Sunday media briefing on Sunday that on Saturday at 04h30 in Wanaheda three suspects allegedly forced open the door of a house and gained entry.
They held three women in the room at gunpoint and removed one flat screen television, one deep freezer and four cellphones.
All of the stolen items were recovered, Shikwambi said on Sunday.
