Windhoek –
“Team sport is an excellent way of promoting small group dynamics that are essential in business and life in general,” said Kallie van der Merwe from Safland, title sponsors of this year’s Sevens rugby tournament.
“Safland, as a private company, can only do so much in promoting sports initiatives and made the decision to become involved in an area where Namibia can stand out and our support can be relevant.”
He added: “Namibia has the potential to become a force in international Sevens rugby and it is also an excellent platform for young talent moving up through the ranks. Safland started off as the title sponsor for the 2015 Safland Sevens and hopes to build on what we have learned from this event this year.”
The Sevens rugby tourney is meant to be a festival and with the involvement of the Dome Swakopmund this year, organizers predict everyone attending the gathering can expect to be blown away.
According to Buttons Heyns of the Swakopmund Dome: “The Dome is extremely excited to co-host the three-day Safland Sevens rugby tourney from November this year.”
This world-class competition is the result of a strong working relationship between Willem Strauss and The Dome, spanning over many years.
“We tried to bring this event to the coast a few years ago but Swakopmund was not ready and we simply did not have enough beds in 2013 to host a tourney of such magnitude.
“Three years later, and here we are as we now have ample accommodation to host the athletes and fans, with an experienced team at The Dome capable of hosting an international event,” said Heyns.
