Swakopmund to host Beach Soccer Festival Cup

Swakopmund to host Beach Soccer Festival Cup

Swakopmund is set to host the upcoming first of its kind, Beach Soccer Festival Cup from 24 to 26 August at Platz Am Meer Beach.

This annual event, organised by the Swakopmund community in collaboration with various sponsors, promises to be a highlight in the local sports calendar.

The tournaments will feature 12 five-a-side female and male teams competing for a grand prize of N$10 000 each, respectively. The runners-up in both categories will also receive N$5 000, while the third-placed teams will take home N$2 500.

Tournament chairman Regto David said, the tournament is for those above the age of 18 and interest is high, with teams registering from all corners of Namibia, from Lüderitz to Rundu. “Our aim is to have 12 male and 12 female teams participating. So far, we have achieved 70% registration,” he said.

David also mentioned that fans can look forward to thrilling soccer matches, top music entertainment from DJs, and a variety of food stalls run by Small and Medium Enterprises.

Given the long weekend and public holidays, the event is expected to attract a large crowd. Security will be tight, with patrols from NamPol ensuring a safe environment for all attendees.

The registration fee for each team is N$500, with the deadline set for Friday, 16 August.
