Ombuga
Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba has advised Swapo Party supporters and sympathisers to vote for the ruling party in the local and regional elections to ensure the country is not governed by any opposition party.
Pohamba said that people should refrain from believing in “false manifestos” and insisted that Swapo is the only party that can develop Namibia.
“I don’t think there is another party that can develop this country further,” said Pohamba.
Pohamba made the remarks at Ombuga village where pensioners were showered with gifts by the Koneka Social Club on Sunday. Ombuga is located about 40km west of Oshakati.
He said pensioners could also contribute to nation-building by voting for the ruling party, hence he urged pensioners to go cast their vote.
Pohamba was informed Ombuga is a Swapo stronghold.
The former president also appealed to party members to welcome returning members back into the party.
Pohamba said former RDP president Hidipo Hamutenya made an important decision to return to Swapo, the party he served for many years.
“Do not laugh at them, welcome them back with open arms,” said Pohamba in reference to people going back to Swapo after serving in the opposition ranks.
He appealed to the nation to uphold peace to create a conducive environment for businesses to operate in and in return build and develop the country.
“We want peace, unity for the businesses to flourish; we cannot run businesses when there is chaos,” he stressed.
While calling upon the nation to uphold peace, the former head of state appealed to the nation also to refrain from engaging in land disputes.
He called on traditional authorities to mediate land disputes to ensure they are solved through talks and not violence.
