WALVIS BAY – A gala dinner on Saturday hosted in Walvis Bay by Swapo Party’s Erongo Region branch raised N$437 000.
The glamorous event was attended by the vice-president of the party Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, the Minister of Land Reform Utoni Nujoma, Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development Derek Klazen as well as the local business community.
Several items including a picture of former president Sam Nujoma as well as well as that of Mbumba taken at the reintegration of Walvis Bay to Namibia were some of the items auctioned at the dinner.
Nujoma’s picture was sold for N$7900, while local businessman John Savva pledged N$50 000 on Saturday to the party.
Nandi-Ndaitwah applauded the Erongo structure under the leadership of their regional coordinator Daniel Muhuura for hosting the fundraiser, saying that it shows the commitment of members to the party.
She also thanked the business community and party members for their contributions, saying it will strengthen the party’s coffers in carrying out its mandate as well as during their election campaigns.
“Your contribution will go a long way in strengthening the operations of the Swapo Party in Erongo Region.  I believe that we are all aware that the Swapo Party is a party with a clear vision for Namibia’s development and its people,” she said.
Hence, she said the funds will come in handy as the party is preparing for the upcoming national and presidential elections.
She then appealed to the party members to be closer to the people and not to pre-occupy themselves with non-issues.
“Let us focus on the elections as we need to win it like in the past. We have to raise our bar and win the election as per the tradition of the Swapo Party,” Nandi-Ndaitwah,
