Swapo Youth Want Ulenga’s Proof

By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK The Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL), in reaction to Congress of Democrats president Ben Ulenga’s statement in the National Assembly on Tuesday, has challenged him to provide proof of ownership of the government medical aid scheme. Ulenga made his contribution to the Finance Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila’s Additional Appropriation Bill. He said the overriding issue for the Swapo government for the additional appropriation of money to the medical aid scheme was that the SPYL owns the medical aid scheme. Saying that Ulenga had set aside the constitutional prerequisite of maintaining the dignity and image of the National Assembly at all times, and instead decided “to leave the obligation of dignity and cast his frustration wide, including an unwarranted swipe at the Swapo Party Youth League”, the SPLY challenged him to “provide proof of ownership by the SPLY of the ‘medical aid scheme’.” Until that proof has been made available to the public, says the SPYL, they will come to the conclusion that “the Honourable Member is misusing Parliament to spread political untruths which are tantamount to misleading the National Assembly”. The SPLY said in a press statement signed by Secretary of Information, Publicity and Mobilisation, Elijah Ngurare, that they were not surprised that the Opposition Mps walked out of the National Assembly, as they are accustomed to doing that, and “after all their absence is of no consequence to the democratic order of our National Assembly contrary to what their supporters may claim”. “It is noted that the Honourable Ulenga is presiding over a failed project otherwise known as a political party; however, making wild allegations against the ruling party and its youth wing will not resuscitate the meaningless project,” the SPLY added.
