Home Crime and Courts Teenager brutally raped

OKAHANDJA – Police in Otjiwarongo are investigating a case of rape that took place at midnight on Sunday in the town.

It is alleged a 20-year-old male had sex with an 18-year- old female at her home without the victim’s consent.

Prompt police work landed the suspect behind bars shortly after he committed the crime.

In an unrelated matter, Jonas Pendukeni (39) allegedly took his own life by hanging himself with a rope inside his shack on Wednesday at New Extension Five Rand Camp in Okahandja.

Preliminary investigations revealed Pendukeni’s father had recently passed away in the north.

Police believe this loss might have weighed heavily on his mind. Although investigations continued police speculated that Pendukeni’s inability to come to terms with the death of his father might have been what triggered his taking his own life.

A second inquest report was opened in the Otjozondjupa Region, where an unidentified 55-year-old woman died a few minutes after she collapsed at the Shell service station in Otjiwarongo. The deceased was member of the Namibian Defence Force and was allegedly travelling from Windhoek to Rundu with five other passengers. The deceased collapsed at around 12h53 while her car was being refuelled.

“She allegedly asked a Shell employee to check her car’s oil and exited the vehicle  – that is when she collapsed. None of the passengers reported hearing her complain about any pain or discomfort during their journey and she died within moments of collapsing. We cannot release the name of the deceased at this point,” said Mbeha.
