The teenager held for the murder of his parents, both aged 50, made his first appearance at the Katutura Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The victims have been identified as Frans and his wife, Fransiena Schiefer of Khomasdal. The couple’s youngest son 18-year-old Romeo appeared before magistrate Desmond Beukes. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to February 29.
Schiefer faces murder charges.
Edwin Coetzee, who is representing the accused, appealed to the court for his client to be taken for mental examination and the magistrate granted the request.
The case was postponed to February 29 pending investigations.
Schiefer, who is a Grade 10 dropout, was arrested in connection with the murder of his parents over the weekend. He is accused of killing both parents on Friday night.
According to a source, Schiefer and his parents allegedly had a quarrel on the night of the incident whereupon the suspect flew into a rage after his parents refused to give him money.
Schiefer is suspected to have shot his mother twice in the legs before stabbing her with a knife. The father was shot in the head and is suspected to have been sleeping at the time he was shot.
The mother was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen with a knife stuck in her throat. The father was found dead in the parents’ bedroom.
Apart from the knife, a CZ pistol was recovered at the scene of the crime.
According to neighbours, it appears the deceased were alone at home that evening while the children were out.
All three children were taken in for questioning over the weekend and later the police laid murder charges against the youngest – Romeo.
He was apparently the last to be seen at the house shortly before the couple’s murder. This is not the first time that a child is accused of murdering his parents.
In December 2006, Ngatangwe Ngatjizeko was accused of killing his mother at their home in Shandubala after a quarrel. He allegedly stabbed his mother all over the body and later poured hot water on her.
