Telecom Namibia on Friday donated a computer set to the Khomas Regional Head Office of the Namibian Police, in support of cooperative efforts to make Namibian communities safer.

According to Deputy Commissioner Marius Visser, the equipment will be used by the Crime Investigation Unit to store/retrieve data relating to crime investigations – including the ongoing ‘B1 Butcher’ case – thus enabling better deployment of resources for the apprehension of criminals.

Telecom’s Senior Manager for Corporate Communications and Public Relations Oiva Angula said the police play a significant role in any country, in maintaining social security and stability, which is of crucial importance in the development of the national economy. He also said the police are doing a praiseworthy job in fighting the widespread theft of copper wire from the country’s telecommunications network.

“Telecom Namibia works closely with other law enforcement agencies to reduce crime; not only from an investigative standpoint, but with respect to technology as well,” he added.

“It is important for us to support our police force to do their job effectively and efficiently,” Angula said.

“They are such a vital part of every community, unselfishly giving of themselves to make our communities safer places to live, work and raise a family.”
