A number of top ranking Namibian U12 and U14 tennis players have been selected to represent the country at the three-legged international ITF/CAT African Junior Tennis Circuit 2016 tourneys.
The first Grade 2 event will be staged in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from May 2-5 to be followed by another Grade 2 tourney in Gaborone, Botswana from May 7-10. Namibian juniors can also participate in a lower ranked Grade 3 event from May 11-13.
Players will compete against their best peers from other southern African countries where the nine top juniors will have a chance to gain international experience at the three prestigious Grade 2 and 3 tourneys, which are played on hard surface.
Additionally, U12 players Johannes Swartz and Hendrina Appolus, U14 players Gena Moolman and Diken de Jong – the strongest players in their respective age categories – have been invited by the ITF to a special training camp in Bulawayo from April 28 to May 1 prior to the series.
The team of young medal hopefuls will be accompanied by experienced coach Nqobilizwe Moyo who is working for the FNB Namibian Tennis Association junior development programme.
