The Art of Narda Rubens

Home Archived The Art of Narda Rubens

The South African artist Narda Rubens received a box Brownie camera on her tenth birthday, and fell in love with photography, especially with light. In 1999, after many years of commercial photography and teaching at various Technikons, a discussion on Gaudi’s statement: To be original you have to return to the origin brought her back to using sunlight but this time in a different way: she placed glass objects on a ground where the sun could shine through them from the back, expecting that it would perhaps make interesting abstract patterns, but when the light played around on the inside walls of glass, it revealed new and wonderful (full of wonder) possibilities.
