Home Special Focus THE FEEDBACK: Ministry of Poverty Eradiction and Social Welfare

Query: Minister of Poverty Eradication, Bishop Zephania Kameeta, are you happy with the way Rössing Uranium treats its former workers? Most of them are today aged 60, 70, 80 or even over 90. Rössing is supposed to pay their ex-employees their portion of the pension fund surplus without delay. Kazandu Kahuure, Omaruru

Response: The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare distributes government pensions in line with Chapter 11, Article 95 (f) of the Namibian Constitution which deals with the “Promotion of the Welfare of The People”. The pension that government pays out is paid in terms of the National Pension Act 10 of 1992 to Namibians 60 years and above who permanently reside in Namibia. However, private pension funds are not managed by and do not full under the authority of the Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare.
