By Michael Liswaniso OPUWO The Regional Aids Coordinating Committee (RACOC) of Kunene, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services, has organized a five-day training workshop on HIV/AIDS, Workplaces Programme. The workshop currently underway started on Monday in Opuwo, with Rosemary De-Wart and Morin Dunn of the Erongo Agency facilitating. This is the third phase of the training workshop under RACOC. Two other training workshop phases held in the past months were HIV/AIDS Common Module as well as Mainstreaming. The current phase targets those involved in the strategic planning to equip them with current updates on the theme of the scourge of HIV/AIDS in their respective workplaces and how to implement an effective workplace programme. “We have learned from past experience that time and resources are being wasted by training people sent by sectors and are unable to utilize the skills they acquired during training because of their positions in their sectors. Therefore, we have decided to target the right representatives involved in planning or leading roles and, as a regional coordinator, I am just happy to announce that most sectors managed to send in the right representatives,” said the Regional HIV/AIDS Coordinator for Kunene, Charles Uarije, who is also a participant. More than 20 participants from different corners of the region are taking part in the training workshop. “I am happy to be part of the team, and I will definitely share the knowledge I will acquire at the workshop with my peers at the office, and possibly soon our office will draw up and implement a workplace programme,” said Jore Uaisiua, an employee of the Kunene Regional Council. The workshop ends on Friday.
