Three babies under the age of one year have succumbed to Covid-19.

They were among the 31 deaths reported by the ministry yesterday. None of the eligible adults who died were fully vaccinated.

The daily Covid-19 update released on Tuesday by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula shows 96 positive cases out of 1 482 tests, representing a 6.5% positivity ratio.

Of these, 92 of the total confirmed cases are new, while four are reinfections. Cases range in age from 11 months to 102 years.

The Zambezi region had the most cases (16), contributing 16.7% of all cases, followed by the Khomas region, which had 15 cases, accounting for 15.6% of all cases. Meanwhile, 557 cases from 12 regions have recovered.

Among the confirmed cases are 13 learners, seven teachers, two students and two healthcare workers.

Two cases received one vaccine dose, 14 cases are fully vaccinated, of which one case received a booster dose. Three of the vaccinated cases did not specify the number of doses received.

Of the positive cases, 77 are not vaccinated, accounting for 80.2% of the total confirmed cases.

There are 9 378 active cases, of which 266 people are hospitalised. Two patients have received one dose of the vaccine, 22 have been completely vaccinated, and 242 have not been vaccinated, accounting for 91.0% of all hospitalised cases. There are 25 patients in various intensive care units (ICU) and none are vaccinated.

The overall number of persons vaccinated with the first dose for adults and children is 414 700, with 354 623 fully vaccinated, translating to 19.9% of the entire target population (1 779 271).
